re-Cycles is run by a Board of Directors. This Board is comprised of volunteers who have staff positions (either as Head Mechanics or Shop Assistants), as well as our paid Coordinator. Many of these people have been with us for five years or more, and a few go back to our humble beginnings over ten years ago!
The Head Mechanics are the ones that have a key and run the shifts at the shop, and most do so after working a full 9-5 job. But they'd have a hard time running the shop during our busy season without our invaluable Shop Assistants!
Rob Galdins - Head Mechanic, Board. Rob is by far our tallest HM, and is also our longest-serving, as he basically helped re-Cycles get started back in, well, the last century!
Mark Rehder - Coordinator, Head Mechanic, Webmaster, Board. Mark joined in 2001 and set about trying to organize a growing and rather messy shop. When Found Lloyd Deane moved on in 2002 Mark assumed responsibility for poking and prodding the group in some sort of coherent direction, along with coordinating shop activities. He can be easily influenced by offerings of chocolate.
Jeff Noakes - Head Mechanic, Board. Jeff knows more about obscure and obsolete bikes and parts than any of us, and has now been with us for over a decade. He is the one most likely to have Fig Newtons on hand.
Mike Bowler - "Basics Night" instructor. Mike brews his own beer. We never see any of it at the shop, but that's probably a good thing.
Berry Debruijn - Head Mechanic, Board. Berry runs marathons, and is therefore probably the most fit member of the group. And he is also by far the most Dutch.
Chris Wells - Head Mechanic, email wrangler, Board. In addition to cycling, Chris rides his motorcycle when his bicycle just isn't fast enough.
Doug Yuill - Head Mechanic, Bookkeeper. Doug is also a member of the Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa (EVCO), and perhaps the first person in Ottawa to own a velomobile!
Michael Van Dyk - Head Mechanic, Board. Also known as Quiet Mike, since we now have two Mikes on staff and it's hard to keep track of them.
Derek Roach - Head Mechanic. Derek is a nice, polite guy. We would suggest being nice and polite back, because he's in the military and probably knows how to use Large Weapons.
Derek Heffernan - Head Mechanic, Board. Derek joined us just so we could have two Dereks on staff to match the two Mikes. We've not yet come up with a clever sub-name for him.
Rob Young - Head Mechanic, Head Carpenter, Board. Rob made some wooden fenders for his bike. Very cool, but wouldn't they get wet and warped in the rain? Better ask him about it...
Charles Richer - Head Mechanic. Charles is one of our bilingual HMs, and the one most likely to try and talk you into putting an electric motor on your bike.
Amber Fedor - Head Mechanic, Board. Amber is our newest HM, and also our first female HM! For now all we can say is that she is also the shortest. But her partner Rob G. is also the tallest, so somehow it all works out.
Lisa Routhier - Scheduling. Poor Lisa - for a decade she has collected our shop report statistics and taken care of HM scheduling, and now we've gone and automated the stats, leaving her with, well, perhaps more free time! We no longer tease her about having a bike repair stand in her kitchen.
Heather Hunter - Volunteer Coordinator, Board. There are few things worse than having uncoordinated volunteers, so Heather makes sure everyone gets in shape!
Richard Guy Briggs - Website host, Board. Richard also hosts our email list (along with many others), in addition to supplying webspace for cycling and Green organizations. He is the one most likely to tow a Hammond organ by pedal power.
Paul Wylie - Head Mechanic. After many faithful years as an HM, Paul has turned his volunteer experience into a fulltime job, running the daytime program for our partner organization Cycle Salvation. He helps fill in for the odd re-Cycles staff cancellation when he is able.
